In 2001 a scholarship fund was established in memory of Kyle Barden, Brendon Benner, and Milton Carter. Since the inception more than $120,500 in college scholarships have been awarded.

In 2009 the Barden, Benner Carter Memorial Fund extended the award to past Varsity Team players who have chosen to put their post high school education on hold and who now have a sincere desire and willingness to improve their life opportunities through education. Who Can Apply For the Scholarship

• Hockey Players
  - Varsity and Practice Teams
• Statisticians
• Team Associates
  - Any Heights senior who can demonstrate an affiliation with the Hockey Program, such as Assistant Trainers, Announcers, Program or Game Assistants, or faithful fans

Requirements

• 2.5 GPA cumulative, weighted
• Recommendation from one unrelated adult
• Topical essay - 250 words, typed: "What accomplishment has given you greatest satisfaction?"
• Acceptance into a two-year or four-year college
• Explanation of hockey affiliation

Awards

• Three scholarships will be awarded each year
• Amount will vary from $1,000 to $3,000
• One-year deferment option possible
• Non-renewable

Application Process Time Line

• January thru March - Obtain scholarship application from high school Guidance Dept
• First Week of April - Submit completed application to Guidance Dept
• Month of May - Scholarship recipients will be determined
• Month of June - Scholarship recipients will be announce at June Awards Ceremony
• Check is presented after recipient submits college admission confirmation to the Fund
